Ekiti State University Tourism Students go onTour to Ikogosi and Olumirin Waterfall with Bolaji Seun

Bolaji Seun shares his familiarization trip with Students of  the Department of Tourism and hospitality Management Ekiti State University to Ikogosi Warm Spring in Ekiti State and Olumirin in Osun State in South West Nigeria

Tourism is one of the means we can use to develop the world economy and in Nigeria create jobs and promote unity.

As one man who travels around Nigeria and  Africa to advocate for tourism development, I noticed that there are many young people that look up to me in this tourism industry and they are always willing to learn more about Tourism.

In Nigeria today, few youths are begin to take tourism seriously and use tourism to make a living by organizing vacations and tour packages, marketing of destinations and alot of jobs done through Tourism.

Last week, I took some of my great 100level friends from the department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Ekiti State University, on tour to Ikogosi warm springs and also Olumirin Waterfalls in Ekiti and Osun state respectively.

The Ikogosi warm springs is one of the seven wonders of Nigeria and alot of people visit that tourist destination where cold and warm water met. While the Olumirin Waterfalls is one of the most popular Waterfalls in the Western part of Nigeria

Group pics of some Ekiti State University Tourism Dept. Students

The Olumirin Waterfalls was actually discovered in 1140 AD by one of the daughters of Oduduwa and while some keep saying it was discovered by some group of local hunters. And the waterfall is a seven steps Waterfalls, we tried to get to the seventh step but we couldn’t because it’s believe to be in another town about two hours walking from the third step of the waterfalls but we were able to see the third steps of the waterfall.. it’s breathtaking views from afar off

And also the Ikogosi warm springs was discovered In 1950 by a Baptist Missionary

History also has it that

the warm spring has a temperature of about 70 degree Celsius at the source, and 37 degree Celsius at the confluence. History also has it that it is believed that the water is an elixir of skin ailment, aches, infertility, arthritis and hypertension, it’s not uncommon to find visitors at the spring with kegs to fetch the warm water, the spring has been a source of life for the people of Ikogosi and a trip like this has really broaden our knowledge about Tourist attractions in Ekiti State, the Students affirmed.

Arita waterfalls which is about 20 minutes drive from IKOGOSI warm springs is one of the lovely waterfalls in Ekiti and Nigeria as a whole

The natural pool at the waterfall creates a setting for fun and refreshes the body

There is also the natural swimming pool that is always warm at the spring. We really had fun and enjoyed our time there

Most of these students are new to Tourism attractions such as this and some got Tourism admission by out of will or incidentally, and I’ve been trying my best to encourage and orientate them about the Tourism course as an expert in the Tourism Industry

First thing I did, was take them on tour , for them to be exposed to the practical aspect of tourism and to know the enourmous potential benefits and opportunities in tourism.

After the tour, most of them were really happy as some of them came to meet me and saying BJ thanks so much for taking us on tour and now we really have better understanding of Tourism.
Now many of them are enjoying the course which makes me so glad as my purpose for organizing the tour is fulfilled

At least I know that I won’t be easily forgotten for the impact I’ve make in their respective lives

In Nigeria, I wish that tourism will be taken as a Compulsary subject in all our secondary schools and as a course in our higher institutions, so the youths can be educated much earlier with the understanding of the potentials benefits of what we are blessed with. Am encouraged by what the Tourism department in Ekiti State University is doing. Bolaji said.

These tours have really widen the scope of their knowledge about Tourism.

I love to include young people who are enthusiastic about tourism in my tour plans, for you to thrive in the tourism Industry, you have to develop a strong passion for tourism and hospitality.

I’ve educated my young friends from 100Level Tourism department about Tourism, and also explained to them the job opportunities and the benefits, now they should start to practice Tourism by going on tours, read and begin to explore and  network with people that knows much about Tourism so that they can grow with it and be well equipped.

I’ll continue to impact everyone that really want to thrive in the Tourism Industry. with Tourism we can walk in unity and continue living in peace in Nigeria.

Join my group on Facebook and let’s see how it goes. Tourism is life.

May I simply say what a relief to discover someone who
genuinely understands what they’re discussing online.

You certainly realize how to bring an issue to
light and make it important. A lot more people need to check this out and understand this
side of the story. I was surprised that you aren’t more popular
given that you surely possess the gift.
